I could never understand why my mother did not enjoy school musical concerts… I mean how could you NOT love seeing your darling baby on stage singing his/her heart out?? Mom always told me…. “Wait until you have children!” Well guess what mom, I have three!!! And you were right, I was wrong… can I have some catsup with my crow?? Tonight was the district choir concert… 45 minutes of us sitting in the middle school gym while they rehearse, and then 1:15 minutes of listening to my darlings, as well as 5 other schools of some strangers’ darlings. The theme was music from around the world. The night had some great moments… one of the schools sang “Three Blind Mice”, yet there was some small differences, I will list the lyrics below, see if you can spot the differences.
Three sightless rodents, three sightless rodents,
Observe how they navigate, observe how they navigate.
They all pursued the agriculturalist’s spouse,
Who severed their posterior appendages with a culinary object.
Have you ever observed such a phenomenon in your existence
As three sightless rodents.
Another school sang the GnR song “Sweet Child of Mine”, I may have shed a tear or two, but I seem to be a little hormonal lately…
Christopher and Austin did a little dance to the song “Draw me a Bucket of Water”. It was a little song where a group of four joined hands and each verse a child stepped into the circle, hard to explain, but once it was done they joined hands and ran in a circle. Chris was the smallest in his group and tripped his circle three times. Another time the only girl in the group was spun all the way off the ground. It was quite cute, though my little Christopher was QUITE antsy. Austin seems to have gotten over his stage fright, this is his second musical performance this year, and he does quite well now… last year he was the deer-in-the-headlights, hands-in-out-pocket, sing-only-when-we-are-feeling-extra-brave type performer. I have a lot to be proud of, I have good boys.
Speaking of good boys, Matthew was QUITE patient with all the chaos at the recital. I did end up retreating to the hall once, but generally I was very impressed.
So, all in all, the night was fine, though at times I thought it would never end…. at least this is the last concert for a while…. unless they do a winter concert! Uhhhhhggggggggg!

OMG, I took off for Kevin’s birthday last year, which so happened to be the day of Caspian’s school Christmas concert and I wanted to just DIE! I actually begged Kevin to either let me fake labor or just sneak out and come back when Caspian’s class was on. They should do these things on a class by class basis, so you only have 45 minutes of torture you that comes from your own kid, so you might be interested. I feel your pain, sister. I have to check when that concert is this year, b/c I’m pretty sure I have to work.

Wow-you got an entire concert? Mine had one 2 weeks ago-an hour of getting everyone in and settled into place-15 minutes of-not even singing! Just a sort of vocal version of the story “Caps For Sale” I was pretty dissappointed since it took longer to park than to actually see the show and then they weren’t even singing (maybe that was a blessing but since they “played” instruments-it was nearly as bad-lol) No wonder my parents hated coming to these things. LOL!

Hey Heather! I know that mine is coming up soon and it’s just so crazy. They have 2, that’s right 2 concerts — one in the afternoon and then one in the evening WHICH IS CRAZY because EVERYONE AND THEIR DOG wants to be at the evening concert and if both of the boys didn’t have to be there during the evening performance, they wouldn’t be. I’m sure you’ll be hearing my whining about it when it comes around — DECEMBER 1! The evening concert starts at 7 and EVERYONE, I mean EVERYONE is there at 6 p.m. getting seats, I’m not kidding. I only hope that Andrew will make it through it!
