I never understood why being pregnant makes you a target for unsolicited advice… one of my favorite stories happened about 10 years ago when I was pregnant with Christopher.
I was 18, and about 7 months pregnant with him and on the city bus to a doctor’s appointment and a little old elderly lady said “Awww, how precious, you are ripe with the Lord’s blessing, how long have you been married to your husband?”
To which I replied “about three weeks”.
Her eyes narrowed and she suddenly looked angry and said “My, my, don’t YOU work fast!”
Without losing my cool I said “oh, I got pregnant on my wedding night, but by the speed this baby is developing I would not be surprised if I went into labor right this second!”
She just glared at me and got up and pulled the sting to tell the driver she was getting off at the next stop, the whole time muttering obscenities about disrespectful youth and loose women. According to another passenger, she got off about 6 stops early and was notorious for being crotchety with young ladies. I guess I was one of the first to get under her skin like that!
