Isis hates her crate; every time we put her in it she whines until we take her out. The first night we put her in our bed because we were tired of hearing her cry. Last night we put her in her crib so we could have our bed to ourselves and I smelled something gross so we turned on the light and she had pooped in her crate and gotten it all over herself, even though she had just pooped outside not more than 15 minutes before. So we got up, bathed her and washed the crate, and put her in our bed again. Today when we went to the grocery store, we put her in her crate again so she would not harm herself or soil on the carpet, and AGAIN she pooped in the crate and got it all over herself. She has had 3 accidents since bringing her home 3 days ago, and two were in her crate where she has spent maybe an hour total.

I am frustrated, we need to somehow get her used to the crate, or find another place to keep her when we leave. I can sympathise with co-sleepers, finding private time with anyone extra in your bed can prove difficult. Unless we find a compromise, it is going to prove difficult to conceive baby #4!

Our dog had issues with the crate. We started off with her sleeping in the crate at night and in training they said “the dog won’t soil where it sleeps” so we also put her in the crate when we went out to the store. Yeah…that never went well. She always needed a bath as soon as we returned. Now over year later we leave her out of the crate and she does fine. You’ll find what works for you eventually.

Hmmm, I am thinking of putting her in the bathroom with the other dog next time, see if that help. Thanks for the info! :)

Man, I’m sorry to hear about the troubles with the crate! We need an update - where are you putting her now? How’s it going?

Well, we did try the bathroom with the other dog when I had to run errands for a few hours and she did great. However she is in OUR BED at night, yeah, she is 18 lbs at 9 weeks and in our bed. GOOD PLAN. Yikes. Where does your pup sleep?
