Tuesday we had a follow up appointment with the Pediatric Neuropsychologist about Christopher. He did not feel Christopher was classic Asperger’s, but he does feel he has Asperger’s tenancies, but for the most part is just a quirky kid as he put it. He does however have a slow processing speed despite having above average intelligence and memory. He also has delayed social skills and a bona fide case of ADHD. The neuropsych Dr. is sending reports to the Neurologist & Pediatrician and is letting them both recommend therapy and medication.

Overall I am satisfied with what we learn and trust the diagnosis.

Using Credit Wisely

Finding the best credit cards can be a daunting task, especially when you have bad credit, or no credit. It is also easy to abuse credit cards by maxing them out, owning too many, or carrying high interest rates. It can be tempting to accept offers for 0% balance transfers, however, unless you can pay off the balance in the allotted amount of time, you may be stuck with a higher interest rate than you started out with.

If you do decide to take the plunge and apply for credit, it is important to compare credit cards; this way you ensure you are getting the very best deal. For instance, it may be tempting to apply for cash back credit cards, but a few dollars back in cash each month is not worth hundreds of dollars more each year in interest charges.

Charter School

Pretty exciting news around here, Austin got his acceptance letter to one of the Charter Schools here for next year.

I am not sure if I mentioned it, but his elementary school does single-sex classrooms for 5th grade. I just love it, and I think it is one of the numerous reasons why he made HONOR ROLL!! for 2 semesters in a row. This is the second year that his school has done this and they are finding all their positive research they did is proving true about the benefits.

Well, I wanted to continue the single gender classes, but the middle school he was slated to go to did not do this. I also wanted him to go to a school that has more parental involvement, higher test scores, more discipline, and uniforms. Basically we wanted a free/public “private” school.

So he MADE it! I need to finish filling out the paperwork, get his records, and his birth certificate (which STILL has not been sent from Illinois), including two references of character from non-related adults.

Reef Sandals

I love sandals, they totally appeal to my love of going barefoot with the added protection of having soles on my feet. This is the main reason why I am a Flylady Flunkee; each time I get the email asking me where my shoes are, I yell back at the computer “in my closet, where they belong!” I own some nice tennis shoes, they are lovely, they look like they have never been worn (because they probably never have) and the rest of my shoes are slip ons. My favorite sandals were these super cute brown strappy sandals which have not been the same since I got them wet at the ocean, it time to look at reef sandals online for a replacement pair. The weather is starting to get warmer here… and to me, anything above 50 degrees is sandal weather!!

Funny baby

Today when I was changing Matthew I was shocked at how bad the diaper smelled when I unsnapped it (I use cloth) and exclaimed “Holy Cow!!” Matthew did not even skip a beat when he responded back with “mooooooo”. I was totally cracking up at how literal everything is to toddlers.

It reminded me of my niece, who was maybe 18 months at the time, probably closer to 12 months. She was climbing all over me while I was singing songs to her and in a sing-song voice I sang “Kendra* is a monkey!” and she replied back “ooh ooh ohh” (the monkey noise).

Kids crack me up, total comedic relief!

*Name changed, I don’t blog names of other people’s children without permission.

Just Say "Hi!"

Online dating can be expensive, and without knowing what results you will get it is difficult to justify spending money on the possibility of making a love connection. With JustSayHi.com you can meet new friends in your area, meet local friends, or meet pen pals, all you have to do is click on someone’s profile and just say hi.

I like that this website offers all the features of the pay for dating websites, like being able to search by gender, age, location, and then read their profile for physical description, picture, profession, interests, religion, if they have or want children and if they drink or smoke. So if you are looking for someone to share a chat with, a date with, or even a lifetime with… Just Say Hi!

Sick (again or still)

After strep, then a stomach virus, we now all have had colds for about a week. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. Last night I could not fall asleep because I was coughing and then I woke up around 3 and could not fall back asleep.

Anyways, I forgot to mention a cute story about Matthew when he was sick with the stomach bug last month. When he woke up he was pale and had small amounts of puke in his crib from the night, and he started getting “the look” all you moms know that look… the “I am going to blow chunks any second so take cover or give me a bucket” so I ask him if he is getting sick and he nods yes so we run across the hall to the bathroom and I set him in front of the toilet and tell him “pukey goes in the toilet” and he leans over it and spews, he then claps, flushes it and runs off to play.

I go back to stripping his bed and he is playing at my feet when I hear him say “uh-oh”. That word is every moms least favorite word, know what I mean? So I turn around just in time to see him jump up, run to the bathroom and throw up in the toilet. Wahoo! Now I am hoping toilet training is that easy! After one more time tossing his cookies in the toilet and a nice bath, he was fine.

Come on guys!

Has this day not been bad enough?? I am PMSing, A.’s dad was late again, I injured my toddler (who has been WAAAAAY more precocious than usual), and I spent the better part of the afternoon trying to get a video to embed in my blog. I am tired, and crabby and I still don’t know if Austin will have to cut his hair before school starts to meet dress code. I just want to curl up in my warm bed, have myself a good cry and a long nap.

On a side note, the older two boys have a sleepover this weekend, and tomorrow we are invited to go bowling with our couples friends, but the here and now remains the same… I need my husband to rub my back and hold me and I need a nap.

Mommy is crabby, she needs a time out.

Video Worth Watching

If you are looking for a neat place to learn how a startup dot com business is built from the ground up, visit the reality show style videos at RockStartup.com where you can watch funny, fascinating videos about the company Pay Per Post, it’s founder, Ted Murphy, and his amazing staff.

My favorite videos are probably the Vegas Episodes; specifically Julie’s Wedding, just because I love Julie & Michael. In episode four you see Veronique & Britt scheming about the idea of a Postie Wedding, and then you get to fast forward to them in Vegas and you get to see Julie trying on dresses. I absolutely LOVE the woman who fits them; she turns to Michael and tells him “I am going to have you out of those pants so fast!” LOL

The actual wedding takes place in Episode five (don’t get confused by the Holiday Special slipped in between the two), and I always cry at weddings, even videos of weddings.

I love this video so much because it shows raw human emotion and I love how well Pay Per Post takes care of Julie, making sure she has a beautiful ceremony and is well taken care of. And what is a Vegas wedding without Elvis?? When Julie kisses her sons before joining Michael at the front, I started tearing up. I love a good love story.

After they are wed, Ted makes sure they have a little startup money of their own and he gives the newlyweds $1,000 in cash. I sure with *I* had gotten cash at my wedding; but I got Bobby, my husband of almost 10 years, who is priceless and the best gift of all, so I cannot complain.Anyways, I have gone off on a tangent, make sure you check out all 12 episodes at RockStartup.com!

How much is that potty in the window?

Today has been a day… I guess if I could describe it in one word it would be catalyst, because one event keeps leading to another. I don’t know how it began, but I will start with the event that inspired the title.

Matthew woke up this morning with a little bit of a red bum, and I decided I would allow him to “air out” so to speak and let him have his much loved “diaper free” time. Accidents don’t bother me because baby pee is easy to clean and it is a great lesson that will hopefully aid eventually in potty learning. Well, he was playing in the front room and came asking for a diaper, so I put a diaper on him and all was fine.

Well, baby A. had just woken up from a nap, finished her milk, and the new milk caused the expulsion of the old milk so I went into the front room to her diaper bag to get her a clean diaper. While in the front room I noticed a strange puddle on the window sill and the table runner of the window seat. I look around and see a wipe (I use cloth wipes, this one was an old diaper and super absorbent) that had fallen out of the laundry basket when I was folding and putting away Matthew’s diapers and wipes. I clean up the pee (light bulb comes on to explain WHY he wanted a diaper) and then head upstairs to put it in the pail. Baby A. is crying, because who wants to lay in poop, but I have to get this wet cloth into the pail before I change her.

While in Matthew’s room, I find that he has climbed up onto his dresser and is finger painting with a tube of Desitin that I keep on the changing table/dresser for bad rashes. I remove him from the dresser and he promptly starts messing with something else he shouldn’t, so I go to my bedroom and grab a doorknob cover so he will stay out of his room while I am busy with A.’s diaper. In the time it takes to do that he is back in his room holding onto a toy for dear life; I pull him out, put the cover on while he throws a tantrum at my feet.

I calm down A. and get her cleaned up and in a fresh diaper. While I am doing that, Matthew finds a step-stool and has started to help himself to a glass of ice water from the fridge and manages to spill it all over the floor. I get a paper towel and clean that up, and by the time I manage to get back to A. who is wanting held, Matthew has now found my Mr. Clean Magic Erasers and is “cleaning” his mess. I get that and the stool away from him and he is already rummaging through the cupboards for something to eat. A.’s dad is supposed to pick her up shortly, so I have no time to put her down to scream so I can feed him. So he gets into the Cheerios and starts squirreling them away in one of his toys.

A. starts to get upset because she is gassy or something and so I have to turn my attention back to her and he is back in the cereal that now decorates my kitchen floor. I grab a broom to try to clean it up and he grabs a dish rag and his it on her face and is pushing it down trying to “help clean” her, not cool so I drop the broom and go back to her and put on Sesame Street trying to distract him long enough to get her out the door. Writing all this makes me realize HOW I can be so tired at the end of the day and get nothing done whatsoever. I remember now how the house managed to stay so clean when I was working out of the home before Matthew was born and Austin and Christopher were in school and daycare.

No wonder I have not had a chance to eat!
