Audio Book Rental

It seems like you can rent any kind of media through the mail, first movies, then games, and now audio books; this is incredible! I love the idea of books on tape, especially for long drives, but the library never carries the books I like, or ones my kids would enjoy like Harry Potter Audiobooks. I had a friend tell me to listen to audio books when I am working out and it is easy to get into the book and get distracted and work out longer, this is how she was able to loose the baby weight from her son and daughter.

I feel so dirty

I got a virus today, a worm from clicking on a link in Yahoo! IM. If you got an IM from me for a geocities website, DO NOT OPEN IT!! It will ask you for yout Yahoo log in information and then infect your computer with a worm. Yahoo will then tell you that you have beel logged on in another location and log you off, this is where the worm takes over and IMs everyone on your buddy list the same link that infected you. I am so sorry for anyone who may have gotten infected. Make sure your virus software is up to date, do an online virus scan, and change your passwords if you think you may have been infected. Also, before you open a link from even your friends, you know what the link is for and that it is ligit.

RockStartup

Ted Murphy is at it again, I swear this guy must eat, drink, sleep, and breath business. He has a brand spankin’ new website called RockStartup, that is a web based reality show that shows the behind the scenes action on what it is like to run a web 2.0 company. If you have never seen business reality tv, you should check it out, not only is it very interesting, but funny. Right now, they have two episodes up for your viewing pleasure.

Episode 1 focuses on how Ted was able to raise money for PPP and startup. He was able to raise 3million dollars and has some great ideas and a solid business plan. It also follows Britt as she tries to set up a trade show (by herself) in New York. Good job Britt, your booth looks FAN-TAB-U-LOUS!! What I love about this episode is that through all the hard work, mistakes, and accidents, Ted and Britt manage to manage it all with laughs, smiles, and a joke.

Episode 2 starts out at 4:30am as Ted and Britt prepare to head to The Today Show to pass out swag and spread the PayPerPost love. This is where Ted states his new motto is going to be “you do what you can with what you got”. Nice. After The Today Show, they head off to Ad:Tech, a trade show where they hope to gain more attention. Ted is able to remain calm despite all the pressure that is thrown his way.

I look forward to more installments. They really did a great job on these movies.

Got Tablet?

Check out this website for Tablet PC Reviews before you buy. Not only do they have this cool bar on the side of their site that shows the most popular Tablet PCs, but they have a ton of information. On the Tablet PC Database section, they have a list of manufacturers and the number of tablet PCs they manufacture. When you click on a manufacturer the website they break down the models by price, and then links you to places to buy. The Tablet PC Reviews section is a great place to check out specifications, pictures, reviews, and so much more! The Tablet PC Forums is also another great place to go ask questions, and see what others are saying before you buy. They also have a section for great deals and coupons, so check it out!

Freaking Busy!

I have been staring and modifying HTML and CSS all day long trying to get ready for the big announcment. I have also beein trying to upload 5 years of digital pictures into Flickr; there are some neat ones in there… my trip to Korea, visit from Aunt Patty and cousin Caleb, Matthew’s first days, Bobby’s return from Iraq (poor quality photos, great memories), etc. It is pretty obvious when I got my new camera by the quality of pictures around 10.05. Anyways, I am taking a break from now so I can make some home-made cornbread for dinner, yum!

Quite the Undertaking

I am pulling my hair out today, this new page is turning out to be a huge mind melting journey into madness.  I am sure in time I will get better at learning the ins and outs of WordPress, but in the meantime forgive me if my baby watches too much Sesame Street, and my dog has to whine at me to get my attention, or if I ask my older kids to please take care of themselves.  Despite all this, the kids will get a hot meal, the laundry is going, the dishes are clean, so it can’t be that bad!

Please Remind me

WHY do I visit chat rooms? Oh man people drive me nuts!! For every one interesting person I find, there are ten idiots waiting to take what I say wrong and get all pissed off about it. And people wonder WHY I changed my mind about going into the computer field as a career… ugh!!

Damn You Mercury!!

This afternoon just REEKS of Mercury Retrograde; Bobby called to ask if he could pick anything up on his way home, and I told him we needed loose leaf paper for Austin, and dog and cat food from Circle F Feed on Union St, take the Circle exit. So he calls me and tells me that the feed store is gone and that he is going to get paper.

Well, I hang up with him and call the feed store hoping to get a recording about where they went, and I get a real person. I ask him if the store is still open and he says “yes, until 6pm”. So I call him back and ask him where he is and he mentions the next town over…. apparently the name, street, and exit all went over his head. When he finally gets there (he passed it, did not see it, construction) I tell him to ask them what brand I bought most recently and only ONCE and then call be back with the name so I can make sure it’s right. Well, he gets it home, and the dog food he got was the OLD brand… Damn you Mercury!!

I really cannot sum up retrograde, but the above link has more information. Just don’t be surprised if communication, transportation, and technology is a bit wonky for the next few weeks.

Keyloggers

Recently there has been a lot of problems with teenagers and pre-teens and Myspace. As much as I would love to keep my kids off the Internet as they get more interested in the social aspect of the Internet, I know that is not a plausible option. However I do think important steps can be taken to prevent adolescents safe. For one, computers and kids should be kept in plain sight at all times.

Parents should also install security software that prevents access to particular sites, or a Keylogger, like this one from SpectorSoft. The nice thing about keylogger software is that is records all keystrokes made in instant messages, e-mail, chats, MySpace, search engines, as well as see which websites are being visited, which files are being shared, and the sequence of it all.

The other feature I like is the Top 10 Summaries.

Many parents and employers like to have all of the recorded activity to review, but also like to have a quick overview sometimes. Top 10 summaries will give you insight to the most common things that are done on the computer. You will know the people they chat with the most, who they are emailing more than anyone else, what their favorite web sites are, the programs they use more than others, and what they like to search for more than anything else. This simple to understand summary of activity is a time saver that still provides you with a lot of information to a person’s online activity.

The other thing I like about this program is that it is all inclusive and allows you to do many of the things parental control software allows you to do, such as Internet access blocking which can restrict anything from specific websites, to specific programs. You can also monitor your own password to see if others are using it besides you. You can also chose which Windows Identity to monitor, so you can monitor your children, but not your spouse. And with Stealth Technology, no one needs to know you are running the keylogging software, but you.

No wonder SpectorSoft is a PC Magazine Double Award winner!!

Cisco Networking and Storage

As my husband gets more serious into his networking degree he is looking to get more serious equipment, not only for home, but for work. In our opinion, Cisco is the leader in networking technology, but can also carry a heavy price tag. My husband and I were both drooling over this website, which overs Used Cisco products. They offer used Cisco Servers/Workstations, Networking Hardware, and SAN/Storage/Backup. Vibrant offers up to a 90% discount on used and discontinued Cisco hardware. All their products are fully tested and backed by a Vibrant Warranty so you can purchase in confidence. And because they keep a large inventory of hardware, immediate shipping is available.
