Productive day

After the long weekend, I was so happy to have the older kids at school, and the big kid at work… But by 9am he was calling to invite me to lunch… LOL

Before I could do that I needed to prepare for errands and do my morning ‘chores’. So, last time Matthew was on base, Bobby was working the gates, so as soon as they finished inspecting my van and shut the door he started SCREAMING, sobbing and crying for daddy. We were halfway to his office until he was calmed down and actually IN his office looking at daddy before he believed me! I was shocked to see how aware Matthew was, I mean it was at least 3 months ago when we saw Bobby on the gates.

So, Bobby and I had a GREAT lunch at the Macaroni Grill, it was incredible! On the way back to his office, we ran into an old friend who reminded me of a baby shower for his wife we are supposed to go to THIS WEEKEND! Oh man, I am in panic mode! I have no clue what to get her, I guess they pretty much have everything they need for the baby, and I want to get something more personal than diapers. PLEASE, if anyone has some good ideas, comment to this blog or email me!!

When the mail came, there was a letter from Child Support Enforcement saying they could not locate BM. I almost sent proof (from her letter to us, to the paperwork from our attorney) when I realized they had her maiden name still, I had a giggle and then called the new worker. The old worker would not allow me to change her last name without her writing a letter of the change (which never happened). I even offered to send a copy of the newspaper announcement of their purchase of the marriage license. The new worker took my word. LOL This new worker is great, very nice.

After dinner we had Tae-kwon-do. The boys brought a friend and their mom (though I doubt they will join) so they got their patches. We will get them sewn this weekend, along with haircuts, maybe even for Little Bit…

Anyways, its now almost 2am and I am not even close to tired, but I have to be up in 4 hours so I might as well start the tossing and turning now…

With good news comes bad

Went to the attorney today and submitted the background check… they already filed without it, thinking they had all the papers, oops! The paralegal called the courts to see what the status was and left a message, so hopefully we will know some more in the next few days.

I got a call from the school today, the counselor called the mom of the boy who was bullying Austin. The counselor had the date wrong, so the mom was super defensive saying we were lying and such because he was with her all day. The mom said that her son was too small to do anything like that. The average weight of a normal 10 yr old boy is between 60-70 lbs, Austin is the smallest boy in his grade and below the 5th percentile for weight and height (50 lbs) so that is not a far stretch by any means. The counselor is going to call back with the correct dates and the police report and hopefully after talking to the witnesses to see what the mom says THIS time about her precious baby being unable to be a bully .

PARENTS: PLEASE GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE SAND! Any child can be a bully!! Instead of refusing to think that little Johnny or Sally is capable because they are a perfect angel who can do no wrong; listen to the facts and DEAL with it!! Please talk to your kids, do not put anything past them, and deal with the problem instead of thinking your child is too good to be bad! Austin is a GOOD boy, very good, but he has had problems in the past and we worked through it because no child is immune to having behavior problems. Ok, stepping off my soap box now.

When I was driving to the attorney’s office today I saw a man on a Honda who was trying to look cooler than what he was. He was wearing a helmet and a windbreaker that matched his motorcycle and BRIGHT white shoes (my dad calls them Honda riding boots). I giggled a bit because he was trying to look like a mean biker… Later, I saw him again in the parking lot of Safeway and it reminded me of a comment that Christopher made when he was 6.

Austin and Christopher and I were at the mall where we saw a motorcycle being given away as a prize in a drawing. Chris went up to the gas tank and read the logo, “Hon-da” he read out loud, then said to me “mom, does that Honda want to be a REAL Harley Davidson when it grows up?”

So, today at Safeway I giggle to myself and tell Matthew that when that Honda grows up, it wants to be a REAL Harley and I go on my way shopping. After shopping I was unloading my groceries and looked over and in the spot where the Honda was, and in the same spot was a Harley Davidson motorcycle! I about peed myself laughing, I guess it really DID want to grow up to be a Harley!

We have some new baby tricks. He climbed INTO the playpen today, the pictures below were after the fact. The playpen, which was resting against the recliner had some toys in it he wanted, so he climbed onto the recliner and then lowered himself into the playpen and then threw out all the toys. Somehow it became my job to save him from the situation he got himself into. *UPDATE* I shot and added pictures of him climbing in, shown below.

Proof My Child is a Monkey, Part One and Two.

He also learned a new word. “Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh-tiiiiiiiiiiiiii” which is Matthewism for “Austin”. He was standing at the bottom of the stairs calling for Austin to come down. Maybe we yell for the boys too much… oops! He still is not saying more than a half dozen words or coppying what we say, so I will be bringing that up at his 18 month checkup. Christopher was slow to talk too and I just got papers from the school to continue speech therapy. Both were/are tongue tied, but I am not sure how much of a role that plays in it.

Background checks… check!

It’s official! I am not a hardened criminal and I have the documents to prove it! So this is it, all my paperwork is done and will be turned into the attorney on Monday! Hopefully he will file it promptly and we will get a court date soon! I don’t know how long it will take to:
A) be notified of our court date and
B) how long of backlog there is and how soon they can get us in.

I will update as soon as I know more!

Bullying

I purposefully failed to mention that Austin has been having bully problems. I was too angry to write anything about the situation because I feel as an adult it’s wrong of me to trash a 10 year old little boy on the internet. Austin and friends had gone to the park together behind my house when Austin got separated from the group. The Bully lunged at him, throwing him off his bike and punched him in the face 4 times. Austin’s eye was swollen, and his glasses and bike got bent up. Austin was very upset and did not want to tell me what happened.

I am feeling better about the situation because I feel like there is/will be some resolution to the situation.

The steps I have taken so far are:

  • We called daddy in Texas and had him talk to Austin about what to do next time, as well as taking to other people in our support system. I reminded him how much we love him and I would never be angry at him for someone damaging his bike.
  • I called the local police department to file a complaint; they could not find the child without an address so that was a dead end.
  • I called the Principal of his school even though it happened before school was in session. He said he would talk to the boys, but he has not because he’s been in meetings.
  • I enrolled both boys in TaeKwonDo to teach them confidence and self defense.
  • I spoke with the counselor at school today who is aware that this is an ongoing problem.
  • I informed Austin’s teacher that this child was threatening him in school yesterday.

Anyways, I should know more as time passes. It really bothers me Austin is having to go through all this, he is such a sweet little boy with so much on his plate right now, he does not need this.

BTW, Austin asked me again today if I got my court date yet, I wish I had an answer for him. On that same note, we got our first statement from the Attorney, and we have only spent a little under 20% of our retainer, and I expect that the most expensive part is already over.

New look

Added a timeline on the side for Austin’s adoption stolen from here. Let me know what you think!

Great News!

So, Austin’s bio-mom signed the consent for adoption. Once I get my FBI background check back (in 4-6 more weeks) my attorney can file the papers and get my court date! HOPEFULLY by Christmas I will get what I always wanted from Santa, and that is my oldest boy to be my own legal child as long as everything goes smoothly.

I also spoke with Child Support Enforcement today about BM, the new worker said she will do everything in her power to get BM’s case in her last state closed out so she won’t be harassed anymore and threatened for not paying. My home state CSE worker also said that once the adoption is final they can set up a small payment plan with BM so she’s not struggling to pay back her arrears.

So, good news. Hopefully this new plan is one that works best for all parties involved.

Airplanes hate me (my ultra-long mega update post)

Ok, ok, you are going to have to beat me with a wet noodle for not updating in such a long time, but I have been SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO busy, and I actually mean that when I say it. Since I want this to be user friendly, I am going to be updating by dates and by specific events.

Austin’s Adoption: 1 of my 3 background checks are back and turned into the attorney, still waiting from my checks from the CBI & FBI. The attorney also sent bio mom a paper to sign giving her initial consent, once those are back the attorney will file the papers with the courts and we await the hearing date!

Bobby’s new job: He starts a week from today, and he is so excited. He was issued a cell phone and a laptop and given his own office (classroom). I really hope this job meets all his expectations and does not interfere with his college schedule.

My niece’s adoption: It’s going to be complicated and ugly. I got to meet her and she is so cute and sweet. A very good baby and fits so well into my sister’s family. Please keep her in your prayers that she gets to stay; we would all be devastated if my sister lost her.

The meat & potatoes:

I am in Spokane WA visiting family for three weeks. We have spent every weekend either with my dad’s family or my mom’s. I also got to get together with a woman from one of my online groups and meet her in real life and let our two little toddlers terrorize each other, and play together.

I left Colorado on July 5th in the late afternoon and had a short little trip from Colorado to SLC Utah without any complications other than normal nausea issues I seem to be having a lot of lately (no, I am not pregnant). Matthew did VERY well, it was his first flight and other than sticking out his lower lip a couple times fell right to sleep and slept in my arms until landing. Plane ride one: Great!

In Utah we rushed from one end of the airport to the next thinking as soon as we got there we would be boarding to find they were running behind. No biggie, they started calling us to board so I got in line and waited and waited and waited. Not fun while holding a 30 lb carry on bag and a wiggly 20 lb toddler while trying to corral a bored 8 and 10 yr old. Finally there was an announcement that there was a mechanical failure with the plane and we may be delayed a few minutes. Finally about an hour and 20 minutes late we were on our way… Our layover was over two hours and we were starving, but did not know when we would be boarding so we did not want to make our way to the food court. Plane ride two: Delayed.

After a full day in Spokane, we packed the 6 (my 3 sons in the back seat, my dad & mom and I in the front) of us up in my dad’s truck and drug the camper 6 hours to Montana for a visit with my sister and her family, my dad’s parents and my Aunt & Uncle whom I have not seen for at least 3 years.

Then Matthew and I flew to Seattle to meet Terri & Zane (and drove down to Olympia). We had so much fun and I think overall the babies enjoyed each other. Hopefully Matthew’s screeching does not rub off on Zane, who is a very laid back boy. Zane’s talking & signing has seemed to rub off on Matthew a little bit, who has a bit more to say than just “daddy” the past few days.

A visit to Olympia

So, on the flight TO SeaTac, they lost my main suitcase, the one with our clothes & Matthew’s diapers. Plane ride three: Lost luggage.

And on the flight home we had a freakish storm over the airport that closed the airport, and we were told we would circle the airport for up to 40 minutes and possibly return to Seattle. Luckily we were able to land about 15 minutes later after two planes before us landed safely. My mom said it was quite the storm with downpours so fast it flooded the freeway and she hydroplaned a few times on the drive to get us. Plane ride four: Delayed landing.

Bobby said he will NEVER fly with me again….LOL Please send good plane mojo for me on the 26th when I return home and take plane ride #5 & 6.

This weekend my mom, the kids & I went camping in Idaho for the sister reunion. It was supposed to be an annual occurrence, but since the loss of one of their sister’s to cancer almost 4 years ago they have not had them. About 40 people turned out total… I saw cousins I had not seen in 5+ years, I met their kids for the fist time (or second). Some of them who I saw as babies were now teenagers, it was neat.

Anywhoo, my hubby REALLY misses me and does not want me to leave him home alone (with the animals) again, he feels lost without me and the pets miss us and keep pestering him for attention. I think this will be the last of my solo vacation days… :)

Feeling sick

I have been feeling pretty nauseous the last 3-4 days so I have not been updating that much not sure if I am coming down with something or if its stress (I think its the latter).

So, rumor has it Bobby should be getting a job offer this week. HR called him this morning and I am waiting on him to call me and tell me what he knows. This job would be here in town in the company he wanted replacing the person who got the job in Texas he interviewed with. I am not counting my chickens yet, but I willupdate once he gets the offer.

Bobby started college today, he is taking two easy shmeasy IT classes this term to get into the swing of things, I am so proud of him!

Next month I am going to Washington for a few weeks to visit friends and family. It will be Matthew’s first flight.

Ok, the news I could not mention in my earlier post…

I am an auntie again! I will not go into the nitty gritty of it all since its complicated or post pictures since she’s my sister’s child, not mine, but she is BEAUTIFUL and her name is 0livia and I just cannot wait to hold her in my arms!!

The biggest news of all. We have retained an Attorney, I am adopting Austin!! We are all very excited! Austin is very happy (yet sad too, which is expected) and told me the other day he cannot wait until the adoption is final. I have already gotten my fingerprinting done, I just need to go get some money orders, a notary and head to the post office for my background check.

Anyways, that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.
