Lay down with you mommy

Matthew was so sweet, he wanted to talk me into letting him watch Sesame Street this morning so he asked me if I would lay down and hold him on the couch. I am so sleepy lately that I almost instantly fell asleep holding him, and I guess I was shivering or something because next thing I know he is covering me with his blanket that he pulled through the bars of his crib. I went upstairs to get my own pillow and blanket and he cuddled in his blanket and together we watched Rosita and Zoe turn Maria into a chicken with Abby Cadabby’s wand… or so they think! Oh Sesame Street, I love you. I love you for holding my sons interest, I love you for your characters, and I love you for your lessons.

Mama, Pizza House!

Matthew has discovered logos and commercialism. He rarely watches TV, but I think he will catch a moment here and there of a commercial or two when we are watching TV because as we were pulling into Taco Bell on Sunday to grad a quick bite before heading to the park he noticed a Pizza Hut sign and started yelling “Pizza House Mama!! Pizza House!!” We never eat Pizza Hut, so I am guessing he must have recognized the logo from a commercial.

He also noticed a car with a Papa John’s logo on top of it today while getting Austin from school and he was all excited to see a pizza car. We watched it pull into the school, watched him deliver the goods, and then watched him leave. Matthew was all excited and even had to tell Austin that he saw a pizza car when Austin got into the car. Austin, being 11 and starting to get the teenage enthusiasm just did not share Matthew’s joy… shocker there!

Summer TV Blues

Wah wah wah, my DVR is so empty! I only like 4-6 summer shows and I feel like everything on the TiVo is either kids’ shows, Dateline, or filler shows (Dog Whisperer, The Simpsons), but nothing good. I am really looking forward to CSI: Las Vegas in the fall, the cliffhanger they left us with made me so ANGRY!! I hate “to be continued…” type shows!

Grammar Police

I am not a grammar snob by any means and my spelling and grammar is far from perfect, but I REALLY hate when people say ax instead of ask. In the video below a teacher is getting heat for teaching seminars on anti-slang language usage in high school and college students. The reason why people are upset? He is African American and targeting young black youth whom he says are most at risk for speaking incorrectly. I don’t get it though, what is wrong with someone trying to rescue children of their own race and help them succeed in the workforce?

DirecTV sucks balls!

Sooooo, a few months back we buy a DVR from Best Buy. It’s the DirecTV DVR brand and not my nifty neato TiVo one from Hughes that I love. The fast forward button sucks and I spend more time rewinding than I do FFing through the commercials. If the show is a rerun, I can’t just push one skip button to get to the “do you want to delete?” function and the ONLY way to get to the “DYWTD?” part is to fast forward to the end (which half the time does not even work).

So, skip to last week…. I get one identical to my Hughes one from Ebay and cancel the other one and all is fine. I figure I did not want to waste the old one, so I give it to our friends. Well, tonight they try to activate and DirecTV says it is leased….? WTH, I bought it, I have the receipt, I did not sign a lease, I OWN it!

So I call DirecTV and speak to some woman who speaks English only half the time and she does a crappy job explaining anything… she did not even know what “an Ebay is”. I get pissed with her attitude and tell Bobby that I should call my dad and see how the law relates to this (he is a lawyer) and she says “Call Best Buy, call your legal team, You can call ANYONE you WANT!” so I ask to speak to the manager… what a shocker, she hangs up on me.

So I call back, determined to request the manager from the getgo. After fussing with the stupid automated system which apparently does not understand “Customer Service” or “operator”, I get another woman who barely speaks English, but is nice. I explain I wanted to speak to a manager, and had a bad experience last time and she types some stuff and immediately transfers me to a manager (wow, a call from USA to India, gets transferred BACK to the United States… THAT must save them a bundle)

Anyways, apparently back in March ’06 they made all their DVRs in the stores leased, but did not put it on the box, in the manual, on the shelf displays or anywhere else…and if I do not return it in 7 days to DirecTV I get a $200 charge. So, when I purchased the DVR Best Buy should have told me it was leased. When I activated it, DirecTV should have told me it was leased. When I deactivated it they should have told me it was leased and sent a box for me to return it in. When I called them a SECOND time to deactivate it again because they never did the first time they should have told me and sent a box, and they didn’t. In fact I was being slated to get the lovely $200 charge. F’in lovely!

So the manager did feel my pain and ended up crediting $50 to my account (half the price of the DVR) and my kids now know the valuable lesson that when Mommy calls DirecTV to cover their ears unless they want to learn new words. This whole experience has put a sour taste in my mouth for DirecTV… too bad the alternatives (Dish, cable, etc) suck even more. Thankfully I DO outright own my two DVRs, the one we got 2 years ago, and the one we got “from the ebay”, but my friends now don’t get to keep it.
Oh, and to top it off, my bill has been raised AGAIN, without service being added… isn’t their slogan all about them keeping their prices from going up unlike cable??? Hmmmm, can we say “false advertising” all together now?? Am I crazy to think that three $5 increases in less than 3 years is excessive? Sorry if this is as clear as mud, I am waiting for my blood pressure to regulate… can I sue DTV for my hospital bills if they make me have a heart attack?
So, learn from my mistake, if you got your DVRs from a retail store (or the company) in the last year and paid $99, you do NOT own the thing… they own you… muahahaha

*This is all just my opinion and in no way shape or form defamation of DirecTV

Television

Anyone catch Grey’s Anatomy last night? WOW! Talk about DRAMA!! You would think as addicted to that type of show I am, that I would be into Daytime Television. If I were to get into a Soap Opera, like All My Children, I love that I can go onto soaps.com and catch up on the characters, the back story, previous episodes, ask questions on the message board, and see spoilers. I am so impressed on how well written this website is, how thorough and how professional soaps.com is. All of the daily updates are well written, complete and easy to understand. They also include screen shots from the show itself so you can see what is going on. Soaps.com also has thumbnails of professional pictures of some of the actors/actresses and boy are the actors on that show YUMMY!

Confession: Court Shows

Lately I have been addicted to these daytime drama shows; Divorce Court, Jude Joe Brown, The People’s Court… I love them all!  Now I am not bad enough to where I have to watch them, but if they are on… I am hooked.  I cannot believe how ignorant some people can be… it reminds me of the women I saw on Cops last week… One woman said “She took my $10!  I tried to buy crack from her and she took my money and did not give me my drugs”.  The second woman said “I did not take her money, I don’t sell drugs.. I am a prostitute!” OH MY GOODNESS!  What kind of defense is that??  Is one evil lesser than the other?

You mean there is LIVE TV???

We are all self proclaimed TiVo addicts. Each one of us has at least 1 show that we record and on any given day have about 2-3 pages of shows to watch. With the lull in new shows because of the holiday, we have been watching The Dog Whisperer, Acording to Jim and The Simpson re-runs that we have not previously seen.

Today, we have nothing to watch. Not-one-thing, unless of course you want us to watch Matthew’s Sesame Street, Signing Time, or Wiggles shows, or Christopher’s It Could Happen Tomorrow show he watches on the Weather Channel. We do have a recording of John Mayer, live in Concert that is really good, but after watching that a dozen times, and listening to his CD at least twice a week, I am sure Bobby would kill me if I suggested that.

So for the first time in weeks, we are actually watching Live TV. Ok, well I did watch the news last night, but that was to see what is being said about the upcoming blizzard we expect later this week. I would love just to turn off the TV and enjoy silence, but somehow I don’t see that happening.
